Sortinfo.dk - A Data and Advisory Platform for Agriculture.

Sortinfo.dk is a platform designed for farmers, agricultural consultants, and researchers. It has been in operation for 20 years and assists farmers in identifying the crops that offer the best yield for them in a given year. Iterator IT has optimized the platform to offer a more user-friendly experience for SEGES' customers. With a modern design and a more stable code, SEGES now has a new platform that is easy to update and make changes to.

- The case description

Each year, new crops are developed that have been improved in several parameters such as resistance to mold. Researchers continuously analyze crops and ways to improve them, resulting in large amounts of data constantly being collected to the platform. SEGES has developed the platform, which is used by 100,000 users throughout Europe

After 20 years, code and technologies have changed a lot, and it can be hard to work in old code. That's why SEGES wanted a new platform made in new technologies that is easy to update and make changes to.

How we solved it

To solve the task in the best and most efficient way, Iterator IT had software consultants Daniel and Kristian onsite to build the new platform.

In collaboration with a Scrum Master and a project manager, Daniel and Kristian have been responsible for the development of the entire new SEGES project. Throughout the project, scrum meetings and retrospectives have been run with stakeholders to constantly have a dialogue about what works and what could be done differently. Daniel and Kristian have provided technical advice throughout the process, so that SEGES would ultimately end up with the best result. With the continuous dialogues, the parties ensured that the project always ran as it should.

To get the best platform, the development team worked closely with the platform users. The users wanted the platform not to have too many changes, so that it would still be easy to use for them. Therefore, Sortinfo.dk has been rebuilt in new technologies, it has been modernised and made easy to maintain and track. In addition, a new frontend has been created, which is what is visible to the user. In collaboration with a digital designer, the website has been made nice to look at and the user experience has been optimized. But the essential features have not been redesigned.

The results

Sortinfo.dk is SEGES' Plant and Innovation Division's most utilized digital product. Hence, it was also important to re-imagine the product to meet user expectations while making it easier and more efficient for SEGES to maintain and make updates in the future.

Daniel and Kristian have successfully delivered a better and more stable experience for SEGES and their users when utilizing the platform. With a modern layout built on old values, the user can still easily navigate the familiar website but has now gained the benefits of a sleek new design. Furthermore, SEGES will now avoid sudden glitches that result in platform errors behind the scenes.
